Badgers notch up 2nd Win against Bromsgrove

Droitwich Badgers notched up their second win of the season with a 3-0 victory over local rivals Bromsgrove. The ever improving Droitwich side started confidently and quickly put the Bromsgrove goal under pressure with some good passing between Hugh Jeavons and Jack Brown in midfield. Matt Gurr picked the ball up in the D, held off a couple of defensive challenges and slotted home from a narrow angle. Droitwich came close to doubling their lead soon after when a neat pass from Marc Chorley found John Phillips on his own in front of goal, but the Bromsgrove keeper reacted quickly to close down the angle and save the direct shot. Bromsgrove forwards remained in high positions, giving a constant counter-attack threat. This tactic almost paid off, as they came close to equalising on a couple of occasions but were foiled by defender Isabelle Trickett and then keeper Matt Whiteside to keep Droitwich ahead at half time.
Bromsgrove started the second half determined to equalise and forced a couple of early short corners. The defence was again in an uncompromising mood and from the second corner set-up their own counter attack. Sam Radford started an interchange of passes through the midfield which drew the defence out and left John Phillips free again in the D. This time he made no mistake and coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the goal to make it 2-0. Droitwich continued to push for a third goal but were again almost caught out by a long through ball to Bromsgrove centre forward. Matt Whiteside reacted quickly again clearing the danger. Another midfield passing move found Matt Gurr on the edge of the Bromsgrove shooting area he passed to James Brass at the top of the circle who in turn found John Phillips who fired his shot home for his second to make it 3-0. Far from be down hearted Bromsgrove pushed forward again and kept George Hutchcocks and Hannah Blackmore busy in defence. Another couple of good saves from Matt Whiteside ensured he kept a clean sheet.
