Droitwich Badgers Storm to Victory

Droitwich Badgers stormed to their first win of the season beating Worcester Potters 3-1 at home.
The home side showed they meant business from the start with Hugh Jeavons and George Battin pushing forward through the midfield putting the Worcester defence under early pressure. Matt Gurr came close to opening the scoring but was unable to control a bouncing cross. Worcester started to move the ball around and press Droitwich back into their half. The Droitwich defence led by George Hutchcocks kept the Worcester forwards at bay and set up a number of dangerous counter-attacks. Worcester continued to press and eventually worked the ball around the defence and slotted home from close range. Droitwich rallied immediately and equalised with almost the next attack with Matt Gurr finishing off a clever interchange of passes. The game moved from end to end and Worcester came close to regaining their lead but were denied by Marc Chorley in the Droitwich goal.
With the wind now behind them Droitwich started the second half in determined mood and again quickly put the Worcester defence under pressure. The Worcester kicking back made a great stop from a Matt Gurr shot but John Phillips was quickest to the rebound finishing neatly to put Droitwich 2-1 up. Worcester tried to respond but were again held at bay by some stout defence by Joe Cairns and Jack Brown. Counter attacking swiftly Hannah Blackmore found George Battin in space on the right. His cross was deftly finished by Matt Gurr for his 2nd and Droitwich’s 3rd. With the light fading fast Worcester pushed hard to salvage something from the game and drew a series of short corners. Marc Chorley was again up to the challenge in the Droitwich goal snuffing out a series of goal attempts before the end.
A great all round team performance by a team who’ve learnt a massive amount in only a few weeks.
