Droitwich 4s Masterclass

Despite travelling with a young side and only 10 men Droitwich 4th XI started confidently passing the ball between defence, midfield and forwards with ease. Droitwich kept possession looking for weakness in Sils experienced defence. Good interchanges between Sigmund Rumney and Pete Gurr down the left found Matt Gurr free in the circle. His shot was smothered but led to a penalty corner. Tommy Ross followed up his initial shot with a neat reverse stick shot to open the scoring. Further forays down the right by Adam Tavener found David Purchase on the top of the circle. Learning from and earlier miss he skilfully placed his flick into the corner of the goal out of the reach of the Sils keeper. With confidence growing a swift move out of defence by Joe Brett found Andy Rollason free in midfield. Clever stick work drew the defence out of position and a neat pass found Tommy Ross in the circle for his second. Rollason and Ross continued to control the centre of midfield in the second half spreading the ball wide to both wings. Matt Gurr continued to work tirelessly up front causing trouble for Sils keeper and creating chances for his teamates. Sigmund Rumney latched on to one such chance to take Droitwich 4-0 up. Sils upped their efforts to get something from the game and forced a penalty corner. The resultant shot was comfortably stopped by Matt Whiteside in the Droitwich goal and cleared by Simon Blackmore in defence. Droitwich quickly countered and found David Purchase free in the Sils D to finish with another well placed shot. Despite the scoreline the effort from the whole Droitwich team didn't wane and they continued to work the Sils keeper. Eventually Tommy Ross followed up the rebound from an Adam Tavener shot to complete his hat-trick and six for Droitwich.
