Spa unable to tame Cubs

First half saw both Droitwich and Barford blowing away the cobwebs of the winter season in both their first encounters in the summer league.

Barford thought they had opened the scoring in the first half with a well taken shot from a Penalty Corner but it was chalked off because the first shot had been above the backboards. Spa responded with Penalty Corner efforts of their own, but Craig Timmis saw his efforts saved by the keepers kickers.

Sam Radford was a constant menace to the Cubs backline and pulling crosses back with Lee Wakelam missing the best opportunity in the first period.

After the break the game continued to be cagey until Cubs broke the deadlock after 13 minutes and it was quickly followed by another scrappy goal. Luke Wicks managed to reduce the arreas for Spa as he eventually poked the ball over the line. In between times Lee Wakelam had a chance in the circle but tried to be precise in finding the corner. Another Spa chance was created after the move of the game with one touch passing but the effort could not be sealed with a goal at the back stick. Cubs extended their lead to 3-1 as their attacker was given the room in the circle to find the bottom corner. But back came Spa with Sam Radford moment of anticipation as he forced the ball home to make the score 3-2. In the dying embers of the game Barry Williams had a chance to equalise when one on one with the keeper but smashed his effort aggoniseingly wide of the far upright.
