Droitwich lose opening Worcestershire Derby

Barry Williams

Despite Barry Williams effort Spa were not able to overpower Worcester on cold evening

Droitwich entertained near neighbours Worcester last night in the second fixture of the Vets season.

Droitwich started compactly, with men over on the left side of the pitch as Worcester confidently moved the ball around. Droitwich threat was from Barry Williams going forward with Joe Neal working tirelessly in the middle of the park along side the defensive pair of Peter Gurr and Susan Williams.

Worcester missed a guilt edge chance as their two attackers contrived to not put the ball in from a yard out but took the lead after a cross from the right founf their attacker in space who fired a low ball into the goal.

Barry Williams had a couple of efforts on goal along with Craig Timmis but these were smothered by Worcester Keeper before a swift Team move from Worcester resulted in their second before half time.

After half time Worcester Started quickly looking to add to their two goals, but it was not until midway through the first half when Worcester extended their lead down their right hand side and smashed the ball across George Robertshaw before finding the sideboards before the ball broke.

Paul Long and Barry Williams have further opportunities as the final ball was rushed and no care taken to get the ball into the right areas

Worcester added a fourth as the away team got a cheap short corner which they profited from after a scramble in the circle

Leaving the final score 4-1 to Worcester
