Droitwich Spa U11s showed resilience and excellent play in the 3 games of drawing with arch rivals Bromsgrove; and Kingsheath but lost their 1st game

U11s came into this tournament looking to add to their impressive results and performances from the previous tournament in February, and the team played improved team Hockey and kept the ball better too.

As is the Spa way the opening game was very slow, as the team looked to be still wiping the sleep from their eyes on a lovely Sunny Sunday morning. Knowle Old School were quicker and faster out of the blocks, thus creating chances as Droitwich defence struggled to cope. Matthew Whiteside again showed what an excellent keeper he is, making smart saves to keep the scoreline down. Knowle scored two quick goals midway through the game to seal this victory.

The second game was a more even against Kings Heath Pickwick. In this game Droitwich moved the ball around well creating chances to spread the ball around and using the right well in particular to create the overlaps resulting in shots on goal. As the game progressed Spa spread the play well onto the left hand side which resulted in several chances being created. Kingsheath were kept out well by the backline who hassled and harried the Pickwick attackers and if they beat the man Spa Keeper kept the ball out with some good kicker saves.
This left the game as an entertaining 0-0 draw.

In the final game it was local derby time against a Bromsgrove side. This was a feisty affair as the tackles came flying in from both sides, both showing the necessary desire to win the ball.
Spa seemed to spark to life with the forwards midfield and defence working as one, which allowed the home side to hit Bromsgrove on the break with Hugo Bates missing a golden opportunity. With Ten minutes played Bromsgrove breaches the defence of Spa and their attacker cooly flicked the ball past the keeper.
Conceding that goal allowed Spa to push even further forward searching for the equaliser which duly arrived after 12 minutes. Spa swept the ball down the pitch finding Fernando Prenderville tightly marked in the area, but he opened his body well and his shot nestled into the corner of the goal well placed and out of reach of the keeper. Both sides kept attacking but could not find that killer goal and the final score was 1-1.

The next tournament is on 27th April at DSHC, which is the final end of season tournament between 10am - 1230 so why not come down and support the team in the Sunshine!
