Men 2s put in an excellent away performance coming from a goal down to surge past League Leaders Wednesbury and win 5 - 2.

Droitwich travelled to league leaders Wednesbury knowing only a win would keep open their slender hopes of promotion nipping ahead of Market Drayton.

Spa were looking to overturn the 3-1 loss when the two side met in Droitwich back in November.

Droitwich had Matt Mason standing in as keeper and although keeping a strong defensive line, went behind from a penalty corner as the ball went between the keeper legs leaving the homeside striker to sweep in. Droitwich struck back though with Marcus Clayton making the way for Captain Nick Bates to equalise with a crisp finish. Spa then took the lead with Lee Wakelam again proving his position in midfield to allow Bates to score the second with a swift strike. The rest of the half saw Wednesbury grow more frustrated as could be seen by their tackling and bickering between themselves.

Second half saw Spa extend the lead when Tommy Ross scored for the fourth game in a row, Wednesbury then came back scoring again after Andy Rollason was caught up field, but Spa restored their two goal advantage when Marcus Clayton scored.

Inbetween times there was a flurry of green cards, as Andy Rollason was spoken to for deliberately blocking the Wednesbury attacker in midfield. Prior to this Wednesbury player and Robin Lee were cautioned.

With Wednesbury trying to at least get something from the game, this then resulted in Spa breaking through to score the fifth with Callum Turner sealing the result for the visitors with a close range finish after the ball broke to him in the circle.

The result meant that Droitwich further consilidated third place keeping the pressure on Markey Drayton in second place, despite the gap being 6 points with two games to go.

Another question to be settled is will Nick Bates finish top scorer in the division as he sits one goal behind Kingswinford player who has 23 compared to Bates 22 after his brace in this encounter.

Droitwich take on Evesham at home in the league 3pm start.
